Deep and high stress mining is a very important topic as it is essentially where the future of the mining industry lies. Deep mining is also technically a very challenging environment. In particular, the geotechnical and logistical issues, including the reticulation and refrigeration of fresh air, are often intense and best practices and innovations need to be implemented. The significant investment and the many unknowns associated with deep mining increases with depth and so does the risk profile. The margin for error in these conditions is therefore very narrow.
The objective of this series of international seminars is to promote documentation of the latest technologies and practices of mining in deep and high stress environment. The content of these proceedings are rich in site experience with the description of numerous fascinating case studies and practical examples.
These proceedings are a hard-bound black and white publication featuring 36 papers and comprising 501 pages. Accompanying these proceedings is a CD with colour figures featured in the publication.
