Mine Closure 2008 is the third seminar in an international series initiated in 2006 in Perth, Australia. The second seminar was held in 2007 in Santiago, Chile.
The objective of Mine Closure 2008 was to provide an international forum in Africa, where industrialists, regulators, engineers, scientists and practitioners can exchange views on how to ensure that the closure of mine sites is achieved economically, whilst minimising future environmental and societal impacts. The theme of Mine Closure 2008 is “From Waste to Resource: Revaluation of Mining Operations, Land and Residue Deposits in a Changing World.”
The authors of more than 150 abstracts responded to the call for papers in order to address these and other questions surrounding the issue of mine closure.
