The Fifth International Seminar on Deep and High Stress Mining was held in Santiago on October 6 to 8, 2010. This follows previous International Deep and High Stress Seminars held in Perth in November 2007, Quebec City in October 2006, Johannesburg in February 2004 and Perth in November 2002.

The objective of this series of international seminars is to promote the documentation and dissemination of the latest technologies and experiences in deep and high stress mining. Historically, the seminars have had a strong focus on geomechanics issues, including mine seismicity, ground support and numerical modelling, recent advancements include broader topics such as mine planning, ventilation, blasting, economics and risk management.

These black and white proceedings feature 42 technical papers written by industry experts from around the world.
