The Australian Centre for Geomechanics and the Centre for Land Rehabilitation, The University of Western Australia, hosted the First International Seminar on Mine Closure (Mine Closure 2006), in Perth, Western Australia, 13-15 September 2006.
This seminar focused on the exchange of ideas, knowledge and lessons learnt in mine closure activities. In today’s highly competitive and environmentally accountable world the exchange of knowledge is a necessity. Mine Closure 2006 brought together top mine owners and operators, consultants, legislators, service providers and researchers to share information about innovative mine closure strategies, processes and products to help minimise future environmental and social impacts. By using opportunities such as this for setting the agenda for future research and operational directions, the viability of mining operations can be ensured.
